State school hockey coaching programme success
Growing the game is hugely important to us, so it has been super exciting to pilot our new state school coaching programme during this last half term. 3 schools took part in the programme, ran in partnership with Stone Hockey Club, and over 50 young children aged 7-10 years old were introduced to hockey for the very first time.
The 6 weeks of weekly coaching sessions across each of the different schools culminated in all of these players being invited to join us at our Easter hockey camp - free of charge. It was incredibly rewarding to see that 10 players decided to accept this opportunity as they got their first taste of hockey on an AstroTurf pitch 🤩

Our aims over the past 6 weeks were simple:
- To introduce hockey as a fun and exciting sport to be part of
- To remove the financial barriers involved in giving new players access to hockey
- To embed hockey training as a fun and exciting place to be
- To feed the players from the school to our camps, and then towards the hockey club itself
Welcome to the hockey family
We are delighted to hear that nearly all of these players have now joined Stone Hockey Club for the remainder of their junior training programme this season. In hockey, some players strive to be the best, some play just to keep fit and socialise, others play for different reasons - either way, we hope these young players go on to have a long and fruitful involvement in hockey. Hockey really is a sport which can be with you for a lifetime and it is a sport which can give you so many different experiences, so we proudly welcome these young players into the hockey family.
We will be revisiting each of these schools on an annual basis for a block of 6 weeks coaching. Shortly we will be contacting all of our partnership clubs to discuss how we can roll this programme out in each of their areas as we aim to reach our goal of introducing hockey to 1000 new young children in 2022.

Interested in becoming a partnership club?
We strongly believe in the strength of partnering with clubs, and we choose to do this as a priority over partnering with private schools - something which sets us apart from many other hockey coaching companies in the UK. Our ambitions go way beyond hockey camps, as a team of coaches and backroom staff we want to look back in 50 years time and know that we had a huge impact on the sport in the areas we reached. We know there are many barriers to helping clubs grow their junior sections and their outreach programmes so we do everything we can to support our partnership clubs.
As part of our state school hockey coaching programme we are up-skilling some of the teachers and other members of staff in each school that we go to, as well as interested club members who may want to deliver hockey coaching in schools in the future. This is one of the many benefits we offer to our partnership clubs.
We have a brochure on what this arrangement would look like ready to send straight out to you, please contact us and we will fire the information over.
